A great artificial turf field should mimic a great natural one

PowerBase/YSR

We view the field as a piece of equipment that has a significant impact on an athlete’s safety. We are of the firm belief that a safer system not only enhances player protection, but also offers quicker drainage, prolonged durability, and environmental preservation.

PowerBase/YSR is made from expanded polypropylene, one of the most durable polymers on earth. Each panel is molded individually, allowing precise quality control. This results in a field that is flat and consistent underfoot. It is also recyclable without ever losing performance. A proper artificial sports surface is tuned for the athletes using it. PowerBase/YSR was engineered for schools, recreational fields and for use with organic infills.

Proven, fast drainage

Brock PowerBase/YSR has large lateral channels that transport water to the collector system along the edge. Even where the panels intersect, the drainage channels line up, so there is no interruption in water flow.

Top view features:

Smart – A stairstep edge supports the artificial turf and prevents gaps from shadowing on the field.

Responsive – Conical piston shape reacts dynamically to variable running loads for a more natural feel of play.

Dynamic – 6 mm crush ribs regulate thermal expansion; Accommodates 130-degree F change in temperature.

Permeable – Millions of drain holes on every field line up with channels on the bottom of each pad.

Bottom view features:

Precise – Crush ribs control fit during installation.

Responsive – Shock absorbing bottom of pad structures.

Dynamic – Drain channels are continuous between panels for water flow.

Draining – Large high volume drainage channels.

The Surface for Athletes

Achieving the proper performance levels for Impacts, Heat and Traction in a quality artificial turf defines the modern sports surface design.

By using the various standardized tests, we can now create an artificial surface as close to natural as ever before. The green areas designate the desired performance ranges of quality natural turf. The spokes indicate the performance results of the artificial turf field systems described in the center. Keep in mind, the turf pile height ranged from 1.5”-2.0” and consisted of products from every brand of turf, yet all of the systems performed well.

Specifications and more details

  1. REPLACING AN OLD, HARD SYNTHETIC TURF FIELD. Using a shorter turf and YSR results in better play and greater safety. It also adds additional drainage to the field and gives you a much more consistent surface for footing. Add an organic infill and now you have a field that will perform like a quality natural grass one and be significantly cooler.
  2. WHEN BUILDING A PLAYER SAFETY FIRST FIELD.
  3. WHEN PUTTING ARTIFICIAL TURF OVER A NON-DRAINING BASE SUCH AS CONCRETE ON A ROOFTOP OR INDOOR FACILITY.

What’s it made out of -it looks like Styrofoam?
All our Brock shock pads are made from expanded polypropylene (EPP). EPP is an extremely durable product that gives our shock pads the perfect balance of safety, durability, and performance. The only thing that negatively affects EPP is long exposure to UV, and since it’s buried under your turf, it’s never exposed to the sun.

Does it drain?
Yes, PowerBase/YSR actually has more and larger perforations than the synthetic turf that sits on top. It can handle all the water that drains through the turf, and it can get rid of it quicker. Independent testing shows that PowerBase/YSR drains at over 500”/hour!

Are you sure it will last multiple life cycles of turf?
Yes, we already have over 125 fields where the turf has been replaced, and the Brock pad has been re-used. In all of those cases, the new field’s test results are the same as when originally installed.

Can you drive on it?
Yes, our PowerBase/YSR Warranty allows for load limits that far exceed most turf manufacturer load limits. Additionally, as long as you protect the field with a rigid field protection system, you can host other events, such as concerts and graduations.

How does it handle expansion and contraction in hot/cold climates?
Every PowerBase/YSR panel is engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of all climates. Each panel has expansion crush ribs built in to absorb the force of expansion of the panels. Because it is made of one material, we know exactly how much it will expand and contract in the most extreme weather conditions, which is factored into the manufacturing of each panel.
